JOB TYPE:                       Full Time

DAYS/HOURS:            40 hours per week, Monday through Friday during standard business hours

LOCATION:2831 Research Drive, Rochester Hills, MI 48309. This role is primarily onsite at our Rochester Hills, MI location

What does the Vehicle Diagnostics Specialist do?

The Production Operations team is seeking a Vehicle Diagnostics Specialist to support the development and maintenance of diagnostic content used in client scan tools. This includes working with sensor data, actuator functions, OBD II monitors, and diagnostic procedures.

 

This role is well-suited for someone who is naturally curious, enjoys problem-solving, and is interested in how different vehicle systems communicate and operate. You will work with vehicle data, diagnostic tools, and technical documentation to support accurate and reliable diagnostic functionality. 

 

Responsibilities:

·       Support and enhance diagnostic functionality for vehicle ECUs within automotive scan tools

·       Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement diagnostic updates and support product releases

·       Develop and maintain service procedures related to ECU replacement and system initialization

·       Investigate and help resolve issues involving vehicles, ECUs, and diagnostic platforms in partnership with internal and client engineering teams

·       Observe and analyze vehicle behavior in a garage environment to better understand system performance (no hands-on repair required) 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent hands-on automotive experience may also be considered.

  • Working knowledge of vehicle communication networks such as CAN, J1850, or K-Line

  • Experience or exposure to diagnostic communication protocols such as KWP2000 or UDS

  • Experience with automotive diagnostic or analysis tools such as CANalyzer, CANdela, or similar tools is a plus.

  • Proficient in using computer systems and Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel for data review

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Must be highly self-motivated and comfortable learning new vehicle systems and diagnostic tools.

  • Ability to interpret technical data and apply findings to real-world scenarios

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Practical experience working on vehicles in a shop, dealership, or personal setting

  • Strong interest in diagnostic processes and technician workflows

  • Familiarity with dealership service, aftermarket repair, or diagnostic tools

  • Interest in vehicle diagnostics and the technician workflow

  • Knowledge of Right to Repair legislation

 

Can you meet these physical demands?

  • Primarily sedentary role with occasional standing, walking, and light lifting in a low-risk environment; Adequately lighted, ventilated, and heated area where normal precautions must be observed

 

What kind of work environment are you getting into?

·       Work is primarily performed in an office setting using standard equipment, with moderate noise levels typical of a professional environment. Occasional travel for meetings may be required. This role may involve interaction with internal teams, vendors, and clients, and at times may require flexibility in schedule based on business needs.
